Dancing Competitions at the Highland Games

Anna Bain organises no less than 15 dancing competitions each year at the various Highland Games events throughout the summer months. All are governed by SOBHD rules and are registered with the Board. Dancers are therefore required to produce their registration cards at the event. Overseas competitors must be registered with their national registration body and must also produce their registration cards. As the Highland Games season approaches you will be able to download entry forms from this page. In most cases when the competition has passed you will be able to download results tables from this page. To download an entry form, right-click the form's link on this page and choose [Save Target As…] (Internet Explorer) or [Save Link As…] (Firefox) and save the file to your desktop. From there the form can be viewed and printed with Adobe Reader. Most computers have this program already. If you don't you can download it free from the Adobe site. When sending in an SAE for your competitor number, please note that we process your entry about 2-3 weeks prior to the actual competition. So if you entered early please don’t worry if you don’t receive the number back immediately. |

|
Hawick: Sunday, 20 June 2010 (click for map) Entry at the gate is free to competitors on production of SOBHD registration card. Judges: Jeanette Jamieson and Susan Nazareth (For some reason the first half dozen names were missing in the Overall Premier table; no idea how or why. However, because they include dancers in small (less than six) groups they’re for information only anyway. Corrected table now included.) |
|
Chaterault: 27 June 2010 (click for map) |

Cupar: Sunday, 4 July 2010 (click for map) Well, it rained again and the whole competition had to be conducted in the games hall adjacent to the park. Also, I wasn't actually there this week due to illness. Hence no pictures this time. However, that hasn’t stopped me getting the results compiled fast, so here they are. |

Burntisland: Monday 19 July 2010 (click for map) Again, rain forced us into the local hall for the morning events. The afternoon started dry and the games committee wanted us back in the field where the public gets to see us, so back we came. Unfortunately the rain returned after just three dances (Fling, Fife Fling and Seann Triubhas) and we had to abandon. Pictures this time are all Premier dancers and the trophy winners are not pictured because of the weather. Judges: Margaret Livingstone and Angela Young. |

Mull: Thursday 22 July 2010 (click for map) |

St Andrews: Sunday 25 July (click for map) A FULL SET of PICTURES appears on the More Games Pictures page. If you usually view the Games pictures take a look at these and please tell me whether you prefer this approach or would rather I stay with the limited selection shown for previous events. Click on any picture there to see a larger view. This display requires a lot more work, so I need your feedback. If I don’t get any response I’ll assume you don’t care and revert to the small selection. See me at Bridge of Allan, Perth or Crief or email and let me know what you think. This large collection can only stay there for a short time due to space constraints and the time it takes to download the page. |

Bridge of Allan: Sunday, 8 August 2010 (click for map) (click for directions) Judges: Jeanette Jamieson, Elizabeth Munro, Victor Wesley Excellent day: the weather was kind to us and we had a record entry of well over 200 competitors. I've had a positive response to my request for feedback on the photo presentation for St Andrews, so Bridge of Allan pictures are in the same format on their own page. Again, prints are available if you want them. They’re available in three sizes: 6"x4" (standard album size), 7"x5" (small display) or 10"x8" (medium wall frame). I'm not in this to make money, just cover costs; prices are £1:00, £1:50 and £3:00, plus £1:00 p&p if you want them posted out. Just drop me an email and tell me what you want. Results: Due to circumstances outside our control the results for Beginners, Novice and Intermediate grades are currently unavailable. In the meantime the results for Primary and Premier events are available now. |
|
Perth: Sunday, 15 August 2010 (click for map) Warm with lots of blue sky and sunshine — great! Results are done, pictures to follow on their own page soon. |
|
Crieff: 22 August 2010 (click for map) Judges: Ritchie Gibson, Victor Wesley Weather was kind; just a quick light shower first thing then the rain stayed away for the rest of the day. Not a huge entry this year due to other comps. on the same day, but a good competition just the same. Results are done and photos are on their own page. Still some group photos but lots of individual dancers featured this time, just for a change. Do you like this feature or would you prefer group shots? Drop me a note and let me know if you have a particular preference. You can use the contact page or email me direct (same address as Anna but substitute "john"). (Note: Premier tables were missing points for Seann Triu. Server problem currently prevents uploading corrected file. Corrected version will be posted asap.) |
